Sustainable Futures Series Success

The St Andrews Global Challenges Forum held a four-part webinar series throughout October on the theme of ‘Sustainable Futures’. 228 people registered to take part from 19 countries.

Social Justice Symposium

The inspirational set of symposia was chaired by Professor Thomas Meagher of the School of Biology featured 30 speakers, including St Andrews researchers and some of their global partners to form the basis for substantive interdisciplinary discussions. The recordings are now available as a resource for academics, professionals and students.

Each session welcomed speakers and focused on one of the cross-cutting impact topics of Equality Matters (Thursday 7 October); Sustainable Livelihoods (Thursday 14 October); Social Justice (Thursday 21 October); and Evidence-Based Policy (Thursday 28 October).

Evidence-Based Policy Symposium

With 11 Panellists across the series including Stephen Gethins, Professor of Practice in International Relations, and former MP for North East Fife; Professor Bruno Brulon Soares, UNIRIO; Chrissie Hirst of the Corra Foundation; former Scottish Government Minister Jim Mather; Dr Rebekah Widdowfield of the Royal Society of Edinburgh; and Professor Gibson Kibiki from EAHRC.

The symposia produced 10 hours worth of discussions that can be viewed as a resource.
