This project has shed light on the magnitude of the impact of Covid-19 on artisanal fisheries and their associated value chains. While artisanal fishing activities were allowed to continue in Peru, impacts further down the value chain, specifically in transport, processing plants and closures of international markets greatly affected fishing communities in northern Peru.
High levels of informality prevailing throughout the chains were highlighted and resulted in an inability of government to allocate resources appropriately. As a result of this project, further funds have been obtained to facilitate local data collection on health, production and socio-economic aspects to support decision makers in northern Peru.
