Managing Medications for Patients with Multiple Chronic Conditions in Brazil

PI: Dr Juliana Bowles
The main focus of this work is to promote good health and well-being (SDG3) while contributing to the reduction of poverty and gender inequalities. Brazilian studies have shown that those most susceptible to poorly managed multiple chronic conditions are female, the elderly and bedridden. Researchers from the Schools of Computer Science and Medicine are working with researchers in Brazil to investigate the applicability and use of recently developed approaches in computer science to promote health and to minimise polypharmacy and hospitalisation due to poor care management and adverse drug effects across different states in Brazil. Poor care management may lead to higher costs due to hospitalisation and premature death. It is necessary to understand differences in health practice and how to support Brazilian GPs across different states to improve community health and care.
